Handcrafted placemat / table mat for your dinner table made with a mystery terrazzo design by David McDiarmid Studio.
I make these with a special type of Jesmonite eco-resin designed to mimic the appearance of marble. I hand-mix with colour pigments and then pour and cast in a specially made placemat mould. Each placemat is then sanded and polished to a nice sheen and fitted with cork pads to prevent scratching table tops. Finally each coaster is coated with a penetrating sealer to provide stain resistance against many liquids and environmental contaminants, and protection against water and oil.
For the terrazzo style finish I collect and recycle leftover cured jesmonite pieces salvaged from previous casting jobs. I break these pieces down into little crumbs which are then added into fresh batches of white jesmonite mix and poured into moulds to create a terrazzo effect.
Due to this product being made with recycled pieces of salvaged jesmonite, the colours and sizes of crumbs will be vary coaster to coaster so will look different to the images shown.
Each placemat measures approx. 29cm (diam) x 1cm (h).
